RI(Republic Of Indonesia) Economic Team to Canada, Lobby BlackBerry?

Group of the Indonesian government's economic team and some industry players to visit Canada from 19 to 22 September 2011. The visit was to seek cooperation opportunities with Canadian business people. One agenda is to lobby the manufacturer of BlackBerry, Research In Motion (RIM).

"Yeah, I heard one of the agenda of the Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs will meet with RIM," said Chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI), Erwin Aksa, the VIVAnews.com in Jakarta, Monday, September 19, 2011.

According to Erwin, the economic team that will convince the RIM to rethink investment in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia. "But if RIM finally decided to remain in Malaysia, Indonesia must have a plan other than Canada's investment position," he said.

HIPMI, Erwin continued, also sent the Head Compartment, David Tampubolon, because the invitation is given the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs for just one person.

In addition to meeting RIM, Erwin added, the troupe will also perform several important meetings to convince investors interested in investing in Canada to Indonesia.

"A lot of meetings outside of RIM. HIPMI also concentrate on investment of electronic products and mobile phones that do not choose Indonesia as an investment destination," he said. "That's a separate problem to be solved."

Meanwhile, the Special Staff of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Silmy Karim, confirmed it had sent Deputy Campaign BKPM, Himawan Ariyoga to participate in the party. However, Silmy again claimed that the visit to Canada is not a specialized activity that met with the RIM.

"I think that its activities do not go there. BKPM If there's no agenda," said Silmy, to VIVAnews.com.

However, continued Silmy, if the agenda is accommodated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs that there is a visit to RIM, it is positive if it wants RIM lobbied to invest in Indonesia.

"BKPM has already met RIM in Canada and facilitated by the Canadian Ambassador in Indonesia," he said.

Indonesia, said Silmy, can actually be invited back to the RIM to come to Jakarta. However, all decisions will come back to the internal rim.

"We respect his decision alone, yet all this investment is also increasing steadily," he said.

However, Silmy asserted, it hoped that the BlackBerry manufacturer also invest in Indonesia. However, there is no doubt there is homework that has not been able to attract investors to Indonesia with a maximum, including RIM.

The approach used to attract investors, said Silmy, in two ways to meet directly with the companies in question and improve the investment climate in the country.
